ART WORKS in Johnstown!
We are a multi-medium, multi-purpose art gallery which services the needs of the greater Cambria County area as well as Somerset County, Indiana County, Bedford County and Southwestern Pennsylvania. ART WORKS offers visual arts as well as musical and theater arts to the public, and provides studio rental opportunities for artists who wish to work on-site and to display their crafts at our gallery. Our exhibits include artists of regional and national acclaim, as well as those who are just embarking upon their creative careers.
The concept for ART WORKS was cultivated in 2002 from the results of a Feasibility Study and the energy of a community-based Steering committee. In 2007, we acquired our not-for-profit (501c3) status. A full Board of Directors was empowered, and our by-laws, mission, insurance and other requirements were put in place. It was then that the dream which had been conceptualized nearly 5 years earlier started to take form to put us on the map as one of the most unique places in Johnstown. Our “sister gallery” – Bottle Works – is located next-door, and was the blueprint upon which our facility was mapped. While Bottle Works celebrates and preserves “cultural diversity,” focusing on ethnic arts and artists, ART WORKS embraces the whole spectrum of art presentation and performance. ART WORKS and Bottle often partner to provide special programs, exhibits and events that celebrate the culture of the arts.
